How do I provide a hyperlink to another Web site but keep the visitor on my site?

The trick is to provide the hyperlink within a New Browser Window. Let me show you how this is accomplished firstly with Dreamweaver 4.

The link is highlighted and copied (Control + C).

In the properties inspector the link (in this case “www.skeptics.com.au/features/qakatak/qakatak.htm”) is copied into the link box.

It is essential that “http:// is then added so that the link box shows as “http:// www.skeptics.com.au/features/qakatak/qakatak.htm”. Now the “blank” option is chosen from the target drop down options. The page is then saved and uploaded to your web server.

Bookmarks are special links to a point on the same page or to a particular point on another page of the same Web site.

When your visitor clicks on the link, a new window appears with the linked site but they are still connected to your site.

An anchor element (A) combined with its attribute (href) provides the Web address of the file to be hyperlinked. An example of the HTML would be:

<a href=http://www.2womenshealth.com/> Link to 2womenshealth Web site</a>

The Web page will show the text “Link to 2womenshealth Web site” and when a visitor to the page clicks on this link they will be transferred to the home page of that Web site.

Frontpage similarly allows links to another Web site using a new window. Choose the "New Window Option" as the Target Frame in the Edit Hyperlink Box. You may set this as the default.
