Landing Pages

A landing page is the page that people land on when they are directed to your website either from another website or an ad.

There are many different types of landing pages which can be used for different purposes. 

A good landing page can determine whether a marketer is profitable or not.

This page usually has only outgoing links to the merchant web pages through your affiliate URL’s.  A landing page differs from a website because it is simply a page within a website.

A landing page can be very beneficial in achieving a greater ROI (return on investment) from the products you are promoting.  It allows you the opportunity to pre-sell and offer reviews of a product, as well as offer highly relevant information.  This enables you to help remove any “Guess Work” that your visitors may have to do in order to make an informed purchase decision.  With direct linking (linking straight from your ad to the merchant), you are relying strictly on the sales page of the merchant to convert your traffic into a sale.

There are two different types of landing pages, both of which can work well.  

  • Review Style landing pages are exactly how they sound.  They consist of reviews, industry information, product comparisons, and outgoing links to the merchant sites. Review pages are the most common, and the most effective. 

People are looking for information, and before purchasing anything  online, they want to find out information about all competing products.  

An effective review is composed of many components.

Product Reviews A page that contains between 3-7 reviews is proven to generate the highest conversions. 

A brief description will provide an outline of the product, why it is better or worse than other products, and  your personal recommendation. 


Rank the products based on their attributes. If there is any ambiguity as to which product is the "best", you will lose the sale (as the visitor will continue their research elsewhere). The aim is to help them make the purchasing decision.

Product Images and/or Screenshots

Include some images of the product or screenshots of the website.  You may want to also include images that pertain to the particular industry you are promoting such as finance, or health.

Visible Exit Points

Allow for a lot of different types of exit points for the visitor to go from your page to the merchant page.  The more visitors you can get to click on your links, the more conversions you will get. An effective way to provide an exit point is to create links or buttons that read "Click Here to Buy Now" or "Click Here to Learn More".

 

As soon as a visitor comes to your page they should see that there are product reviews available to them. 

 

 

  • Testimonial Style landing pages consist of promoting one particular product from a first person point-of-view.  

A good testimonial-style landing page captivates the person's interest, answers all their questions and builds them up to a comfort level where they feel good about purchasing the product.  

 Here are some questions that you can ask yourself and answer within your testimonial:

  • How can this product improve their life?
  • How do the selling features apply to the customer's “wants”?
  • Are there any risks with purchasing this product?
    • most products/services available online have a full 100% money back guarantee. 
    • there is nothing to lose for a customer if they are interested in trying a product. 
    • if they don’t like, they simply ask for a refund and get their money back.  This is a good point to emphasize through a testimonial based landing page.

Landing Pages That Convert

Landing page optimization has the same principles as search engine optimization for any other web page.

Poor  landing page optimization will “bounce” visitors away from your website.  Usually you have a few seconds only to capture the interest of your visitors.

Text Links

Text links are the most sensitive link, meaning that they get clicked the most by visitors.  They can be made to break-up sales copy and other text, adding whitespace to your pages.  As an example:-

  • Use a Larger Font and different colour (blue is generally recommended for links) than the other text on your page.
  • Center the links in the middle of the section so that they stick out even further.
  • Capitalize each word in your sentences to make the link look strong, more exciting, and more prominent.

It is also a good idea to add a text link at the bottom of your page. This adds flow and continuity to your webpage.
